We were so happy to celebrate Meri-union 2021 in late September with so many wonderful alums. In the upcoming weeks, our upcoming alumnae spotlight will focus some of our Golden (50th reunion) alums.
We begin our profiles with Rosalind (Roz) Fulton, a 1971 graduate of the then Mater Misericordia Academy. Rosalind began a career in modeling, and, after receiving an award from her school, she continued her career as a student and teacher at the John Robert Powers School of Modeling. She then moved to New York and became a fitting model on Seventh Avenue. Moving back to Philadelphia, she worked for John Wanamaker Department Store as the house model for thirteen years, while appearing in shoots in magazines like Essence of Ebony and on the cover of Beauty Trade, working with designers like Halston, Bill Blass and Donna Karan. Roz was the first black supermodel in Philadelphia!
In 1980, Roz became a Super Bowl cheerleader with the Liberty Belles, the Philadelphia Eagles cheerleaders. In 1985, she was a member of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, with 700 shows to her credit in a single year of touring.
Early in her career, Roz and her mother founded "Directions of Exposure," an agency which specializes in casting for hard-to-find and exceptional talents, as in Unbreakable (M. Night Shyamalan Films), Backfire (Netflix), and Sno Babies (Amazon Prime).
Roz is grateful to her mother, who started her modeling career at age twelve, and to all of her teachers for bestowing on her an education that gave her "the skills and enthusiasm needed for life-long learning." She would like to give a shout out to the great class of 1971!
