What a season for Cross Country! In Paul Short, an invitational in early October, Marianne Cheeley placed 21st among 343 varsity runners with a time of 19:52:80, which was the first time since 2013 that a Merion runner went sub-20 for 5K. She also has won an award in every invitational the team ran this season. In the AACA Championships at Tyler State Park, varsity runners Marianne Cheeley brought home 9th, Claudia Campisciano placed 13th, and Mollie O'Dwyer and Isabelle Millan were in the top 35. MMA's JV team had an impressive showing too, with Morgan Doyle coming in 20th and Clare Quigley placing 22nd.
As a team, Cross Country placed 5th at AACA Champs.
Marianne Cheeley qualified for State Championship! She finished 8th (top 10 qualified) at the PIAA District Cross Country Championship at Lehigh University. Marianne is MMA's first Cross Country State qualifier since 2013.
At the PIAA District Championships, MMA’s Varsity Cross Country team came in 4th (of 10) based on the times from MMA’s top five runners: Marianne Cheely, Claudia Campisciano, Mollie O'Dwyer, Zoe Gusikoff, and Isabelle MIllan. Including Tess Szathmary, all of the Varsity placed within the top 55 runners! JV also did exceptionally well! With 650 runners, MMA boasted five girls finishing with Morgan Doyle leading the pack, followed by Clare Quigley, Julianna Steinmetz, Erin Daly, and Cate Aaron.
To conclude the season, Marianne represented MMA and our Cross Country team impressively at the State Championships in Hershey! Finishing in the top half of a pool of 208 runners, we are so proud of Marianne and all she and her teammates accomplished this season!
