Inspired by the tradition of many liberal arts colleges, the Common Hour is an opportunity for all members of the Merion Mercy community to engage in a collective discussion of a contemporary social issue through the lens of academic scholarship. For the 2019-20 school year, the focal point for the Common Hour gatherings will be on the intersection of the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy with the best practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

For MMA's first event of the school year, Merion was delighted to have Dr. Carol Rittner, RSM, Distinguished Professor of Holocaust & Genocide Studies Emerita, Stockton University, speak on her recently published book, The Holocaust and the Christian World.

Close to 100 attendees comprised of students, faculty, parents, alumnae, Sisters of Mercy, and other stakeholders participated and engaged in a thoughtful Q&A after the presentation.

Social Studies chairperson Paul Clementi shared, "Dr. Rittner was so impressive as both a scholar and teacher. I was so appreciative of how she seamlessly wove together the theme of the play with her scholarship and a call to action today....Dr. Rittner gave the audience a clear vision on how we should act on the lessons of the Holocaust in today's world."
