Department of Athletics
July 15, 2021
Dear Merion Mercy Community,
I hope that this letter finds you well and that you and your family are enjoying the beautiful weather and some time together.
We are about four weeks away from the start of preseason for our fall sports. I wanted to reach out to provide some details for our interested families along with information on winter and spring athletic programs.
The start date for fall PIAA sports (cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball) is Monday, August 16. The fall Crew program will start on Tuesday, September 7. Please mark your calendar!
More information including dates, times, and tryouts will be posted on the homepage of the website. In the meantime, please work on filling out all of the athletic paperwork, which can be found within your daughter's Magnus account.
Instructions from the school nurses to access the Magnus Health SMR (Student Medical Record) were sent out to families. Please click here to review the email with the instructions.
We have used FamilyID in previous years, but will not use it during the 2021-2022 school year. Our nurses and the Athletic Department will be using Magnus Health this coming school year to collect and retain all medical information. Any paperwork that is needed for your daughter to play sports can be found within Magnus as well.
The PIAA physical form has been revised for the coming year and can be found within the health record in Magnus. It will need to be downloaded and printed. Your daughter should ensure that she takes the form with her to her appointment. The physical form must be signed and dated after June 1, 2021.
The registration process, including the physical form, must be completed by Monday, August 9 in order for your student-athlete to participate in the start of the fall season on Monday, August 16.
Please note that the PIAA start date for the winter season is Friday, November 19 and for the spring season is Monday, March 7. The spring crew season will start on Monday, February 21.
We plan to offer basketball, swimming, and crew training over the winter, and crew, lacrosse, softball, and track and field in the spring.
If you have any questions about our programs, please feel free to reach out to our coaches. You can find their contact information on the specific teams pages of our website.
New athletes, returning athletes who have been at Merion for two years, and any returner who sustained a concussion during this past school year will be receiving information from our athletic trainer, Sara Woodring. Athletes, please keep an eye out for this email as a baseline will be required prior to starting practices for any sport.
If you have any difficulty with the Magnus Health SMR, please contact their customer support by phone at 877.461.6831 or by email at service@magnushealthportal.com. If we can assist you with questions, please feel free to reach out to me by email.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support. We are working diligently to provide a great athletic experience for your daughter, and we look forward to a great year together. Go Golden Bears!
Sincerely,
Shannon M. Fisher, CAA
