Heading into Tuesday night's basketball game versus St. Basil's, Merion Mercy's Jada Smith '17 just needed 12 points to score the 1,000th of her high school career. With just a few seconds left, Jada got the ball and went in for her shot, hitting 1,000. Although the game didn't end in MMA's favor, Jada still gave Merion Mercy's faithful something to celebrate.
Jada is the fifth MMA basketball player to reach 1,000–Colleen Barrett '89 was the first in 1989, followed by Colleen Kelly '94 in 1994, Shanette Lee '95 in 1995, and Ayeshia Smith '97 in 1997.
Jada will be honored on Sunday, January 15 when MMA takes the court for the Philly Showcase tournament.
