Merion Mercy juniors Caitlin Farkas, Devyn Russo, and Caroline Hecht participated in the Captains’ Practice Leadership Conference on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The trio was nominated and selected to attend this unique leadership conference for high school, female athletic leaders. There they worked on interactive leadership training and heard from women leaders in sports and business. Speakers included Karin Corbett (Penn Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach) and Jane Golden (Executive Director of Philadelphia Mural Arts).
Live Like Blaine hosted the Captains’ Practice Leadership Conference. The Live Like Blaine foundation was created in memory of Blaine Steinberg, an athlete and leader both on and off the field who died suddenly in 2014. Its mission is to empower and inspire young women to become leaders through fitness and athletics. Blaine’s parents, Jill and Sid Steinberg, have created the FIT TO LEAD program which creates a Leadership Circle for girls to gain the leadership skills that are so important on the field and in life. One of the key components of the program is this unique leadership conference for high school girls.
In the months to come, conference attendees participate in a community service project as part of the program.
